Tour Details

Experience an archaeological tour in the capitals of the Macedonian Kingdom, where Philip II and his son, Alexander the Great lived. Departing comfortably from Thessaloniki, we are visiting Pella archeological site and the new archeological museum, which takes us back to the Macedonian capital by the time of Alexander.

After Pella, we proceed to Naoussa, ancient Mieza, where philosopher Aristotle taught young Alexander. Upon arrival to Vergina, ancient Aigai, we have a short stop for a quick optional lunch and proceed with visiting the Great Tumulus, Royal tomb of Philip II of Macedonia, father of Alexander the Great. We will remain impressed by the quality, the wealth and the exceptional art of the findings. After the visit, return to Thessaloniki.

What to Expect

Following BOREAS’ daily tour inspired by Alexander the Great, you will find yourself in the places related to the youth and early kingdom of the great strategist and Macedonian King. We will visit the capitals of the Macedonian Kingdom, Pella, where Alexander was born and lived until his departure to Asia, and Aigai, where his father, King Philip II is buried. A visit is dedicated also to the Nymphaeon of ancient Mieza, where the young Alexander followed the classes of philosopher Aristotle.

‘Alexander the Great’ is an easy archaeological tour, that demands some walking in easy archaeological sites. During the warm season, you should carry with you a hat, sunscreen and water. Comfortable walking shoes are advised.
